The Global Resilience Learning Exchange (GRLE) workshop was held from 5 December to 11 December 2012 at Summer Palace Hotel in Baridhara, Dhaka.

The workshop was attended by a total of 25 participants, including 17 foreign dele-gates’ from different parts of the world and 8 staff from the Bangladesh office. The learning ex-change was inaugurated by Mr. Shabel Firuz, Country Director of Is-lamic Relief, Bangladesh.
Mr. Khurshid Alam and Mr. Mamunur Rashid jointly facilitated the whole workshop besides presenting several papers on ba-sics of climate change, implication of climate change in DRR, community resilience. Khurshid Alam presented the Basic con-
cepts: Disaster, Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk in the first half of 05 De-cember, 2012. Dr. Sheikh Tawhidul Islam, Professor, Department of Ge-ography and Environment, Ja-hangirnagar University presented Understanding Science of Climate Change (CC) and implication on Dis-asters Risk in the same day. A.K. M. Mamunur Rashid presented on ‘Making Sense’, describing the signifi-cance of indigenous knowledge and practices in everyday life of commu-nity people at the afternoon.
The workshop helped develop a com-mon understanding on the concept and discourses related to resilience. It also helped determine the scope and niche for Islamic Relief on advo-cacy and fund raising along with pro-ject development in the emerging context. The end product has been a draft Global Resilience Strategy being developed on behalf Islamic Relief Worldwide.
